Thomas Middlecott Academy celebrates GCSE results
Thursday, August 22, 2019
Students at Thomas Middlecott Academy are today celebrating their GCSE results, with more students achieving the highest GCSE grades than in previous years. Part of the David Ross Education Trust, the academy has made progress in a number of areas following on from their successful Ofsted inspection in the summer term.
For the first time, students took GCSEs in individual sciences at the academy with 50% achieving a grade 4+ in each of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. In BTEC Sport students also did particularly well with 74% of students achieved Level 2 BTEC qualification. Students taking a number of modern foreign languages also performed consistently well once again this year.
2018 saw the introduction of the new exams in virtually all GCSE subjects. Under the new grading system, 9 – 1 replaces the old A* – G, with a grade 7 equating to an A and a 4 reading across to a C. The school saw an improvement in the number of students achieving the EBACC measure and grades 8 and 9 in different subject areas.
Overall, Thomas Middlecott Academy has seen some star performances from a number of students who have achieved high grades and made significant progress from their starting points:
Marietta Mirowska, Head Girl made the most progress in the year group and achieved 11 GCSEs including grade 9 in English Literature and Polish, grade 8 in English Language, Religious Studies and French and grade 6 in Geography and Art.
Her twin sister, Malwina also made very impressive progress from her starting point and achieved 11 GCSEs, including a grade 9 in Photography, a merit in BTEC Sport, and grade 5 in English Literature, Religious Studies and Polish.
