Positive Ofsted monitoring visit praises Edward Heneage Primary Academy

Edward Heneage Primary Academy, part of David Ross Education Trust, is celebrating after receiving a detailed report from Ofsted following its recent inspection in May.  The school has shown improvement across the board, with moving up to ‘Good’ status in all aspects of the report.

Ofsted’s inspection report can be read here.

“My children have been so happy at Edward Heneage. It’s the only reason I am living in the area”

Ofsted praised the Grimsby school and nursery, noting:

  • ‘The principal has taken effective action since the last inspection. Her relentless drive has led to rapid improvements across all aspects of school life.’
  • ‘The multi-academy (David Ross Education) Trust has provided effective support. The high-quality training the trust has arranged has improved the effectiveness of senior and middle leaders.’
  • ‘Trustees have made strategic decisions to accelerate the rate of improvement.’
  • ‘The quality of teaching has improved since the last inspection and is now good.’
  • ‘The curriculum is helping to raise pupils’ aspirations’
  • ‘In the early years, high-quality areas of learning are very well planned and resourced.’
  • ‘Pupils are polite and well mannered. They behave well in lessons and around the school.’
  • The school’s enrichment programme has been praised: ‘pupils have the chance to try different sports that they might not have experiences’ and ‘leaders arrange visits from elite, female, professional athletes to further inspire girls and boys to take part in sport equally’

Dominique Osborne, Headteacher at Edward Heneage Primary Academy, said “We are thrilled with our Ofsted rating update. We have come a long way since our last inspection and it is so rewarding to see that everyone’s efforts are having a positive impact. We have seen some rapid improvements in the school and this is down to colleagues’ and students’ hard work and their continuous drive to achieve better. I’m so happy that we can live up to our ethos of aiming for all pupils to leave our school ‘with a suitcase full of aspirations and immense pride for what they have achieved’. This is just the start and we are well on our way to becoming an outstanding school”

Simon Rose, Director of Education – Primary, David Ross Education Trust, said: “Mrs Osborne and the team at Edward Heneage Primary Academy are a wonderful example of how a school can improve in a short period of time with the right attitude and ambition, providing enrichment for children and opportunities for them to thrive in”
