Year 3 pupils from Northampton’s The Arbours Primary Academy, part of the David Ross Education Trust, were delighted to spend the day at the Houses of Parliament in London.
Following a recent visit from local MP for Northampton, Michael Ellis MP, pupils were invited to take a tour of the House of Commons and the House of Lords, where they were able to find out more about the functions of the two houses.
During the exclusive tour, pupils were delighted to see Mr Speaker, The RT Hon John Bercow MP, as he waved to them from the balcony.
As part of the visit, pupils also had the opportunity to take part in an interactive workshop, where they discovered how MPs debate key issues and how a government is formed.
Tyler, a Year 3 student at The Arbours Primary Academy, said: “I was really excited to visit London and learn more about the history of the Houses of Parliament. It was something that I will never forget.”
After leaving the Houses of Parliament, pupils boarded the London Eye, where they were able to spot many iconic landmarks situated across the capital.
Trudy Cotchin, Principal at The Arbours Primary Academy, said: “I am delighted that our pupils were given such a wonderful opportunity to visit the Houses of Parliament. This was a first visit to London for many of our pupils, and it was an absolute joy to be part of these memories that will last them a lifetime.
“This visit is just one of the many learning experiences we are able to offer as part of the David Ross Education Trust, where pupils are inspired to be intellectually curious, interested in the broader community and the world in which they live.”
