Impressive results at Charnwood College
Thursday, August 18, 2016
Students from Charnwood College ended a nerve-wracking wait when they collected their A-Level and vocational qualifications today.
Mark Sutton, Principal, said: “Our students have achieved a strong set of results that they should be extremely proud of.
“Nearly a quarter of all grades achieved were an A*, A or equivalent, and two thirds of all grades were at least a C.
“Of those students who sat their vocational exams this year, nearly all achieved at least Merits with the average grade being a Distinction.
“These are extremely impressive results. Each year I am inspired by the efforts of our students to achieve their personal best. Their hard work and perseverance should be applauded and I wish them all every success for the future.”
Amongst the smiling faces was Joshua Elliott, who achieved 1A*, 2As and 1B and will now go on to study Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College. Charis Brown secured some incredible grades to give her the option to read Law at some of the country’s leading universities, and Charlotte Pagett’s straight As and A*s mean that she has been accepted to Kings College, London.
Charis said: “I am really pleased. My grades mean I have the opportunity to study a subject I am really passionate about and I have choices about where to study it.”
Rhiannon Marshall, who was awarded the Diana Courageous Citizen Award for her fundraising and volunteering earlier this year, was thrilled with her results.
She said: “It has been a challenging few years, but I have secured the grades I needed to go to Bristol University. The hard work and effort have been worth it.”
In addition to those students receiving their final A-Level results, AS levels results were also issued to students in Year 12.
Mark Sutton said: “Some amazing results were secured at AS level too. In fact, five students secured straight As, a total of 20 between them.”
The students are Isabel Dungworth, who secured 5 As, Alice Frankin, David Horstman, Anna Peters and Libby Ward.
Wendy Marshall, Chief Executive of the David Ross Education Trust, said: “These results mark the end of a very impressive year for Charnwood. Results are strengthening, the opportunities that are on offer are amongst the very best in the sector and we are investing heavily in Charnwood’s site.
“It is no surprise, therefore, that Lord Coe said that he can benchmark Charnwood’s students amongst the very best that he has met when he visited in July. The exciting thing is, this is just the start of a very bright future for the Charnwood College.”
