Monday, June 11, 2018
Hull’s Endike Academy, part of the David Ross Education Trust, has been awarded the prestigious Artsmark Gold Award for its commitment to arts and cultural education.
Artsmark is the creative quality standard for schools, accredited by Arts Council England. It provides a clear framework for teachers to plan, develop and evaluate arts, culture and creativity across the curriculum and beyond.
The Arts Council England panel made the following comments about Endike Academy:
“Endike Academy has used Artsmark as a platform for promoting exploration, deeper understanding and enjoyment of other subjects through arts-based learning.
“At the outset, the staff leads for music and art were the driving force, but with the combination of expanded arts provision and the more strategic approach afforded by Artsmark, the new philosophy is driven by all the staff and children in the school.”
As part of the David Ross Education Trust, pupils at Endike Academy benefit from a number of outstanding opportunites through the Trust’s pioneering enrichment programme. With thanks to the David Ross Education Trust Inspiration Fund, the programme aims to help pupils develop their character and talent, and increase their knowledge and understanding.
Trina Smallwood, Arts Lead at Endike Academy, said: “We are truly honoured to see Endike Academy receive the Gold Artsmark Award. This status recognises our incredible arts offer, which inspires our pupils to explore their passions and discover their talents.
“We are incredibly proud of this achievement and this has further encouraged us to continue incorporating art and culture into the lives, learning, knowledge and understanding of our pupils.”
