Grantham’s Ingoldsby Academy welcomes England women’s international footballer

Friday, May 4, 2018

Pupils and staff at Grantham's Ingoldsby Academy, part of the David Ross Education Trust, were delighted to welcome former England International footballer, Sue Smith, to the primary school for an action-packed day of sport.

During her visit, Sue hosted a number of coaching sessions for every class, where pupils from Reception through to Year 6 had the opportunity to develop and perfect their skills.

The talented footballer, who has 93 caps to her name, was also interviewed by three lucky pupils during a specially held VIP lunch. As well as a number of lighthearted questions, the pupils asked Sue all about life as a professional athlete.

The visit culminated with a whole school assembly, where Sue discussed the highs and lows of her career. The retired footballer, who now works for the BBC and Sky Sports, also gave pupils an insight into her new role as a football pundit.

Melanie Capes, Principal at Ingoldsby Academy, said: “This has been an incredible opportunity for our pupils to work alongside an England international footballer. Sue has achieved so much throughout her professional career, and her visit has inspired our pupils to work hard in order to reach their goals.”
