Year 9 students from Havelock and Humberston Academy have taken part in the WIME (Women Into Manufacturing and Engineering) Programme in partnership with Orsted. Following success in recent years with Havelock alone, this year includes more young ladies from Humberston Academy too.
The WIME programme aims to inspire young ladies to consider roles and careers within traditionally male dominated industries and sectors in the future. The students have worked with female role models, including apprentice's, and learnt all about the skills needed to embrace a career in renewable energies.
To culminate the programme, on 1 March, the students visited the East Coast Hub and the Humberside Airport site to see first hand how the operations run and how the wind farms are constructed. Students also met Courtney, an ex Humberston Academy student and the first female apprentice at Orsted.
