Charnwood College Hosts Sportshall Athletics Event for Local Schools

152 pupils from schools across Loughborough and Leicestershire visited Charnwood College yesterday to take part in an exciting Sportshall Athletics tournament. The Year 5 and 6 pupils went head to head in various events including running relays, soft javelin and vertical jump, each vying to win first place for their school.

The event, which was organised by the North Charnwood School Sports Partnership and supported by Loughborough High School, sought to create a friendly yet competitive environment for the pupils who have missed out on several sporting opportunities over the last two years.

At the end of the day, after being judged at each station by adjudicators from the Loughborough High School Sports Leaders , the results were: 3rd place Booth Wood Primary School, 2nd place Hall Orchard C of E Primary School, and 1st place Mountfields Lodge School.

Angela Newport, PE Lead at Mountfields Lodge, said:
"Our children always love participating in this high energy, exciting and fun competition. NCSSPAN did an amazing job, as always, in organising a superb event with confident, friendly Sports Leaders who did a fantastic job in explaining and guiding the children through the events."

"It was really fun competing with my team because we were all positive towards each other." - Hamza from Mountfields Lodge

"There was lots of supporting and cheering for all the teams." - Megan from Mountfields Lodge

"I enjoyed competing against other schools and testing my abilities." - Daniel from Mountfields Lodge

Ellie Beachell, School Games Organiser and Sport Enrichment Officer at Charnwood College, said:
“The Sportshall athletics event was a fabulous success and we were delighted to welcome pupils from across Loughborough to our school for the afternoon. We’d like to say a big thank you to the Sports Leaders from Loughborough High School who supported the event and judged each station, and a huge well done to all the pupils who participated.”

Alastair O’Connor, Principal at Charnwood College said:
“It is so fitting that the town renowned for its sporting prowess, has a thriving school sports partnership. We currently have 21 primary schools within the sports partnership and it is wonderful to see so many active individuals competing in a range of sports throughout the year. Delivering academic excellence, embracing the value of enrichment and investing in community citizenship is at the heart of who we are and what we do at Charnwood College. Thanks to a £1.3 million pound investment over the last few years, Charnwood boasts amazing sporting facilities, and it is a pleasure to host events like this one for the wider community.”
