Charles Read Academy celebrate GCSE results

Students at Charles Read Academy are receiving their GCSE results, with 37% securing grades 9-4 in English and Maths.  Part of the David Ross Education Trust, the academy has worked hard under the new, tougher GCSE exams.

In Science, French, and VCERT Food students did particularly well, with 62%, 60% and 57% respectively achieving grade 4 and above. In Food 43% achieved a Distinction and 29% a Distinction*.

2018 saw the introduction of the new exams in virtually all GCSE subjects. Under the new grading system, 9 – 1 replaces the old A* – G, with a grade 7 equating to an A and a 4 reading across to a C.

We have seen improvements in French, Art, VCERT Food and PE with some star performances from a number of students. Particularly strong was the performance of Mollie Patterson and Hollie Miller who did very well amassing one grade 9, three grade 8s, four grade 7s, five grade 6s and a Pass and Distinction in Sport BTEC between them.

Sue Jones, Principal of Charles Read Academy said:

“I am really proud of the effort and hard work that students and staff put in ensuring that Charles Read Academy continues on its journey of improvement.”

As part of the David Ross Trust Education, Charles Read Academy is committed to delivering academic excellence. Students also benefit from the Trust’s pioneering enrichment programme, which provides an incredible range of inspirational learning experiences in sport, arts and music.
