A group of 40 students from Corby’s Lodge Park Academy, part of the David Ross Education Trust, have taken part in a National Citizen Service programme in order to help their local community.
A team of young members of the National Citizen Service, a scheme that aims to help young people develop new skills, meet new people and contribute to a community project, completed a number of projects over a three-week period.
As part of the scheme, the youngsters teamed up with students from across Northamptonshire to offer much-needed support to local residents.
The team have created, managed and carried out a number of different projects including grass cutting, planting and weeding the garden at Corby’s Lakelands Hospice. They have also been fundraising to provide new books and toys for children at Kettering General Hospital.
Darren Gadsby, Principal at Lodge Park Academy, said: “At Lodge Park Academy, we are committed to developing a community spirit and actively working with others.
“As well as helping to make new friends across a number of different schools, the programme has helped students to develop new skills and help them to give back to the local community.
“Whether they want to continue within further education or are working towards their ideal career, initiatives and opportunities like this help our students to prepare for the next steps in their education.”
BUILDING A STRONG COMMUNITY
As part of the David Ross Education Trust, Lodge Park Academy is at the centre of its local community, providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere and embracing the values of community support.
The Trust aims to provide every child with a world-class education by focusing on delivering high standards of attainment and achievement, whilst raising confidence and self-esteem amongst individuals. Alongside providing academic excellence, building a strong community encourages pupils to leave school as well-rounded individuals and valued members of society.
