Five lucky Sixth Form students at Grimsby’s Havelock Academy, part of the David Ross Education Trust, have been accepted onto the Teach First Futures Programme.

The two-year programme works with Sixth Form students across England to provide them with valuable advice and support to help them submit a strong university application. As part of the programme, students are able to gain first-hand experience of higher education to help them make informed decisions about what they want to do next in their education career.

Havelock Academy Sixth Form students Andrew Hill, Erin Loughran, Joanna Dlugoszewska, Summer Dawes and Courtney White have all been successful with their applications to the Teach First Futures Programme.

As well as attending universities to help them gain an insight into university life, the students will take part in a four-day residential Easter School, held at the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge. During this time, each student will study a chosen subject and will attend seminars delivered by leading academics.

Andrew Hill, one of the students at Havelock Academy’s Sixth Form Centre, will benefit from this incredible opportunity. He said: “I am absolutely delighted to secure a place on the programme and I cannot wait to get involved.

“Thank you so much to my teachers at Havelock Academy who have supported me with my application for the programme.”

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

As part of the David Ross Education Trust, Havelock Academy is committed to providing students with a world-class education by delivering academic excellence, whilst raising confidence and self-esteem amongst young people.

The Trust ensures that students receive an exceptional education, both inside and outside the classroom, to help them broaden their horizons. As a result, more students are achieving their academic aspirations and going to some of the country’s top universities.

Wendy Jackson, Principal at Havelock Academy: “At Havelock Academy, we encourage our students to become self-disciplined and resilient in their learning.

“Being a part of the Teach First Futures Programme is an outstanding opportunity to help our students excel and become their confident, academic best.”
