Northampton’s Briar Hill Primary School hosts “Get Active” day

Friday, October 20, 2017

Pupils and staff at Northampton’s Briar Hill Primary School, part of the David Ross Education Trust, held their own ‘Get Active’ day to increase sporting activity amongst young people.

The primary school children took part in a range of activities as part of the Briar Hill Get Active Day, including a mile-long walk and a number of sports master classes. Pupils also benefitted from a number of classroom sessions, which focused on mental wellbeing and healthy eating.

The day was held to help increase participation in sport and physical activity, as well as to educate young people on the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle.

In attendance was football freestyler, Dan Magness, who wowed the crowds with his incredible skills as he put on a number of performances for pupils throughout the day.

Parents, guardians and grandparents were able to join in with the fun as they attended a specially held afternoon fete with the children. Families were able to find out more about what pupils had been doing throughout the day and took part in a number of the sporting activities on offer.

Janey Cooksley, Headteacher at Briar Hill Primary School, said: “Sport is a very important part of life at Briar Hill. We actively encourage all pupils to participate in sport, PE and physical activity.

“This event has helped us show our pupils that exercise can be easy and fun, and how it can boost their mental wellbeing.

“We would like to thank Northampton Saints Rugby Club, Northampton Town Football Club and Premier Sports for supporting this fantastic event.”
