The Charnwood College Riders Girls Team have travelled to Croatia this week for the International Schools Federation (ISF) World 5v5 Championships.

The successful basketball squad, who attend Sixth Form and train at Charnwood College, are representing England in the Championships for the second consecutive year.

The talented players celebrated success last year at the 3×3 World Championships, held in Tallinn, as they secured a remarkable third place.

This year’s tournament will play host to teams from across the globe as they compete in a number of basketball matches.

Following a victorious game over the hosting team, Croatia, the Riders have also faced the Czech Republic and France as part of the initial group phase and will shortly hear about whether they will progress to the next round.

Charnwood College Riders’ Head Coach, Krumesh Patel, will lead the team throughout the competition.

Krumesh said: “Competing at the World Championships is such a great experience for the girls, as they will have the chance to play teams from around the world and develop their basketball skills on an international level. ”

Anna Popovic, Senior Forward for the Charnwood College Riders, commented: “To participate in international basketball and see how other nations play is a fantastic opportunity.

“My last experience at an ISF tournament was amazing, so I am really looking forward to going and competing once again. ”

Mark Sutton, Principal at Charnwood College, added: “We are always so proud of the Charnwood College Riders’ sporting achievements.

“Being invited to the World Championships and representing England is an incredible testament to their hard work and commitment.”
