Briar Hill Primary School

Northamptonshire

Briar Hill Primary School, based in Northampton, joined the Trust in 2012. For over a generation the school had never achieved a grade above satisfactory, and as a result support in the community was wavering.

In July 2016 the school was inspected by Ofsted and received the best grading in the academy’s history, achieving Good in every category.

The inspection team found that:

  • The quality of teaching, learning and assessment is now good. Teachers have high expectations of what pupils can achieve and pupils are rising to the challenge to meet them.
  • Pupils’ achievements are higher than they were at the time of the previous inspection. This is because leaders have raised the quality of teaching and made good use of leadership support within school and through the cluster of schools and the Trust.
  • Pupils are well behaved in lessons and around the school. They frequently show their positive attitudes and good desire to learn.
  • Pupils particularly enjoy learning through the many stimulating trips and visits planned for each year group and the regular sports and music events organised by the Trust.
  • The Trust provides good-quality support through the academy chain. The school accesses a full range of expertise and this is enhancing and developing the skills of leaders and teachers in all areas of the school.
