David Wood

Academy Improvement Lead - Primary

I joined the Trust in 2016 as an Academy Improvement Lead for Primary.

As a System Leader, my role involves providing training, support and challenge to the headteachers, senior leadership teams, staff and governors across our cluster in order to ensure the best quality education for all children.

I support five academies, providing effective and timely School to School Support in order to achieve improved outcomes.

This also entails quality assurance of the systems and programmes in place across the academies, including Academy Improvement Plans, Self-Evaluation Forms, monitoring practices, quality of teaching, accuracy of the judgement of leaders, progress and outcomes.

For me, the things that make the David Ross Education Trust stand out are its focus on giving the children in our care the best possible education and that there is a culture of continual staff development.

The chance to see children grow, develop and improve as a result of what I do inspires me in my role.

Career history

David is currently the Executive Principal at Edward Heneage Primary Academy and Ingoldsby Academy. He has worked in education for 13 years, all of which have been in the Primary sector.

He has experience across a range of different settings, including inner city schools with high levels of EAL, large village primaries and small rural primaries.

David has held a number of different middle and senior management positions over the past ten years. Prior to joining the Trust he successfully led his school through Ofsted and Church School inspections.

He is a firm believer that staff themselves will often have the answers when it comes to school improvement, and that building levels of self-belief is vital for both staff and children alike, if schools are to flourish and be successful.

David is an accredited Church Schools Inspector, he values the experiences he gains from conducting these inspections and uses them to improve his own practice.
